Elder in Residence

To support our Ojibway Language studies as well as our First Nation programming, the KCDSB introduced an Elder in Residence program back in 2016. This school year we are excited to welcome Elder Terry Skead into the role, which supports all the schools under Kenora Catholic.

An Elder is an Anishinaabe person who is known and respected within the First Nation, and Métis community as a Knowledge Carrier. They have a wealth of life experience and knowledge in the traditions, culture and languages of Anishinaabe peoples.

Terry works out of the Catholic Education Centre supporting all of our schools. He provides guidance, counsel and support to teachers, students and families, as needed.

The goal of the program is to infuse cultural teachings and traditions into the classroom so that students understand and respect First Nation, Métis and Inuit cultures.
