Jordan's Principle ensures all First Nations children living in Canada can access the products, services and supports they need, when they need them. Funding can help with a wide range of health, social and educational needs, including the unique needs that First Nations Two-Spirit and LGBTQQIA children and youth and those with disabilities.
At the Kenora Catholic District School Board the Jordan's Principle Lead will work as a point-person to help families and school teams access education, health and social supports for First Nations children with unmet needs, through the Jordan’s Principle initiative. This can range from electronics, one-to-one Education Assistant support, help with transportation and more.
Through Jordan's Principle funding, the KCDSB has already been able to implement the Culture, Achievement, Success and Engagement (CASE) program in partnership with Wauzhushk Onigum First Nation.
The new partnership will help develop and fund programs to help remove barriers to education and to provide culturally-appropriate supports, to help increase engagement, achievement, and personal well-being in band members who attend KCDSB schools.
Jordan's Principle is named in memory of Jordan River Anderson. He was a young boy from Norway House Cree Nation in Manitoba.
