As a Canadian school board, Kenora Catholic understands the benefits of having the ability to speak both English and French fluently. We are proud to have offered French Immersion beginning at École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys and finishing at St. Thomas Aquinas High School for nearly 30 years. Our Core French program also highlights the rich history of French-Canadian culture while helping students understand the basics of the French Language. Whichever path your child chooses, our educators will give them the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in the French language.
French Immersion
Our French Immersion program is designed for students who do not speak French at home. The early immersion program begins in Kindergarten at École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys and continues all the way to graduation at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, where students can graduate with their French Immersion Certificate. Throughout this program students achieve strong fundamental skills in oral communication (listening and speaking), reading, and writing in order for them to function bilingually.
Core French
Our core French program is offered at St. Louis School, Pope John Paul II and St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Kenora as well as St. John School in Red Lake. This program is designed to increase a student's confidence when using French outside of the classroom. Lots of activities and the infusion of French-Canadian culture make learning French fun at all of our schools.
