You are invited to our first KCDSB Parent Book Club! Wait! Don’t stop reading this yet!
The book: “How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk” by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish.
It’s an easy read and has been helping parents for over 30 years.
If you are a parent of a child attending one of our schools, any age, then this is an invitation for you! We all struggle at times with parenting. This book offers tried and true approaches that make parenting easier, if we are willing to try some strategies. We hope to create a safe place for parents to gather once a month to discuss parenting challenges and celebrate success.
But I don’t like reading… well, we will have the book available in three formats for you to choose from: a printed copy, an ebook, or an audio book.
But I don’t have time to read…well, we will also do a quick review of each chapter before we talk about it so that you won’t miss anything, and then if you want more information you can go back and scan through the chapters that interest you.
That sounds awesome but I have kids, and we need dinner…well, we will provide dinner and childcare for those who register for the Book Club.
But I probably can’t make it to all of them, we are busy…well, each chapter will be presented as a standalone session as well. If you need to skip a session, no problem, join in again when you can.
Each month we will look at one chapter and have time to discuss things that we have tried or difficulties we are experiencing. We will have a chance to learn from each other and try new things.
Location:
St John’s School for those in Red Lake.
We will announce the venue for those in Kenora.
We will be together on Zoom for a short presentation on the chapter and then have time to discuss the chapter in person.
5:30pm – Dinner is Served
6:00pm – 7:30pm – Brief Presentation, Break and Discussion
This is hosted by the KCDSB Mental Health Team, so there will be a familiar face. We will all be in it together!
There are 7 Chapters in the book so mark your calendars!

November 30th – Engaging Cooperation
January 25th – Alternatives to Punishment
